*** 1st Weekend Games

May 8th, 2018

Storms and Wind hit hard on Whitestown’s Little League field on Friday night.  Before we get into our recap of our games I want to thank all of our Coaches and Assistant Coaches for getting to the field at 7:30 am to get our field playable.  This is a volunteer effort by everyone and it was because of the dedication of our coaches and assistants to get to the field early and get it ready!  The Vets hosted our first Saturday Special and the sausage and peppers was a hit!  You could smell them throughout the field on every pitch.  Thank you to the Vets for helping out in our concession stand on the first Saturday!  Kudos to the parents who helped!

Our first game was between Stewarts who have played the last three games and Hannaford.  This game was very well played from the first inning on.  Lucas Tucker provided an excellent pitching performance to keep Hannaford up all game and 4 to 2 into the last inning.  Connor Wiggins provided many plays in the field to get outs for Hannaford and get them out of innings. Hannaford tied the general in the top of the 6th on a sacrifice fly to right field by Gabe O'Donnell, and ultimately took the lead 4-2, but could not hang on as in the bottom of the 6th Stewart's plated three runs to snatch the victory from Hannaford. This was a hard fought win for Stewarts. Mike Stilwell started the game pitching and Nick Weherle closed the game. Jack LaFayette, Chris Stilwell, Nick Wehrle, Tyreke Cornett (First hit), Tyler Jarvis and Carter Smith all got hits. This game came down to the bottom of the sixth inning where Tyreke Cornett hit a single to get on base, he then stole two bases. Carter Smith walked to get on base, Jack LaFayette hit a double to score tying run, then stole 3rd base. Chris Stilwell hit the walk off hit to bring in the winning run.

The noon game on Saturday saw Chapman Insurance take on WFD. Carmen Centro pitched three strong innings for Chapman and he along with Cullen Sheridan and Aidan Nofri delivered hits for Chapman. Ty Montrose pitched the first three innings and Kyle Meier came in to complete the game for WFD. On the offensive side for WFD, Ty Montrose and Devin Trevisani each had three hits and teammates Tyler Stivali, Kyle Meier, Nick DiCesare each had hits along with Matt Kellog who's single drove in the final run of the game giving WFD a 11 - 1 win. Chapman outfield made some outstanding plays with Conner Passacantando and Adam Gutowski leading the way.

The final matchup of the day was a great baseball game.  Legion was paced by Noah Clausen who was making his first career pitching start. Clausen pitched 4 innings giving up 4 hits only allowing 1 earned run, and he had six strikeouts. Defensively third baseman Ethan McCaw had three great plays. The offense was stalled because of the great pitching effort by the Vets pitchers. The Vets started Austin Stoquert on the hill and he provided a great pitching performance to keep Legion off of the scoreboard.  A play at home blocked by Zach Montana was one highlight of the day!  Tony Dorozynski came in to shut Legion down and preserved the victory.  Frankie Trotta had a great hit to help his team get another run.  Patrick Wands delivered a bullet up the middle for a single for his second hit of the day. Dorozynski, Anthony Sawanec and Matt Brink were the only runs on the day.
